(Some Of) My Favorite Design Books
Design is completely and utterly fascinating to me for so many reasons. So many reasons I think no one wants to hear on this blog (it would be the longest, most boring blog post ever). Mainly that I admire anyone who can look at an object and see something that can be made different about it. My favorite design books encompass quite a few subjects including industrial design and graphic design. There's something about the ideology of what makes certain products, designs, or brands stick and others fade away that I find very intriguing. I love that there are 6,000 unique ways to redesign objects but still make them functional. I mean how many designs for chairs have you seen in life?
So, I Tried Filmstruck...
Filmstruck is a streaming service that offers "contemporary and classic art house, indie, foreign, and cult films." It was created by the film lovers at Turner Classic Movies and the Criterion Collection. There's a pretty well stocked library of options across multiple genres, and even just scrolling genres seemed endless
WTF Wellness: Grounding
A few months ago it seemed like everyone was throwing around their most trendy wellness tips, and one of the most popular, especially according to Hollywood, was grounding. No, it's not the kind we used to get as disobedient kids, but rather, exactly as it sounds: creating balance via the ground. Grounding, or Earthing, is using the ground and it's natural electrical current to balance out your body. It made me super curious because we didn't really talk about that in Earth Science so I decided to do a little research on Grounding.
The List - Rose Gold
Rose Gold is one of my favorite things ever. I'm addicted to buying it especially when it comes to jewelry. I'm still really disappointed I lost my favorite rose gold ring at the movies a few months ago. But, because of rose gold's popularity, I constantly find new ones to "replace" it with. I just really love how rose gold looks with dainty, simple pieces. it's just incredibly simple and pretty.
Wallpaper Can Be Cool, I Promise
When I hear the word wallpaper I'm immediately drawn to a mental image of the 1970s. Something similar to, say, this? But, in reality, modern wallpaper is actually pretty cool. I've seen it used a bunch on HGTV so my opinion has really turned around. There's even a hilarious episode of Property Brothers where one woman is determined to use the world's busiest wallpaper (at whatever cost) much to the chagrin of both Jonathan and her husband.
Music Monday: Arcade Fire
Arcade Fire have won plenty of awards for their music and other technical/creative aspects. These include Brits, Grammys, and two members (Will Butler and Owen Pallett) even received an Academy Award Nomination for Best Original Score for Her. Everyone surely has heard of Arcade Fire or at least their most popular song Wake Up. Wake Up was featured in Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are and commercials for the NFL in 2010.
Throwing a Bachelorette Viewing Party
Watching The Bachelorette or even being considered part of Bachelor Nation might feel a little embarrassing. What really helps the shame factor is having a crew of people to (ironically) enjoy the insanity with. It's more fun with friends who listen to the same podcasts (Rose Buddies is a good one) and who will play with you in a fantasy league (not for the faint of heart). So naturally when you've got a crew in this with you, a viewing party is a necessity especially when it comes to finales. Tonight Rachel Lindsay will pick her future husband (she claims she's still engaged), and that might not seem like enough time to toss together a finale party, but it is. There are about 6,000 elaborate ways to celebrate the Bachelorette.
Links I Love 003
Ah, the weekend. The time where I should be doing a whole lot of nothing, but I'll likely end up stressing about everything I haven't done. You know, the stuff I keep saying I'll do tomorrow or the next day, but then eventually run out of days to do? I feel like I constantly need to be productive or I'm a complete sham of a person. Yikes. Hopefully sometime this weekend I'll manage to binge watch Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later.
Who What Wear x Target - Fall
One consistent topic I always have to share are the new releases from the Who What Wear x Target line. For over a year now each month new releases have been hitting store shelves in order to give us all access to affordable, street style inspired clothes. They are incredibly on trend or really great variations of trends. They are flattering, cost effective, and, of course, stylish. I definitely believe they are essential for the business casual work environment (which is where I wear them most often), but can really be worn anywhere. Dress them up or wear them casually either way you'll feel great in something.
