Mix 09: White Hot Summer + Labor Day Playlist Extravaganza
It's time to say au revoir to summer. Well kind of anyway. Seasonal playlists are my favorite to make because they can soundtrack certain events, holidays, or even days. They can evoke sentiment years later when we stumble upon them or just songs that remind of us times gone by. That sounds pretty eloquent, but I can't tell you how many times I hear Yeah! by Usher and remember the summer of 2004 (for better or worse). Summer just has a much happier vibe to it and playlists really reflect that.
Labor Day Style Inspo
Ah, Labor Day. The unofficial end of summer is finally here. Too bad the Arizona heat won't be out of here for at least another month. But it's time to fully embrace the end of summer and fill the final days with fun activities. There are BBQs, beaches, lakes, boats, picnics, and so many other things to do. I have some really fun plans this weekend, but I'm lacking a little in the style department. I'm just not sure what to wear.
The List - Back to Class
These are a few of the things I find essential to making it through the semester. Headphones to drown out the noise, comfy clothes for hours spent studying, and the supplies to keep everything in line. Okay, so maybe its an attempt to keep things in line. College is a whole new breed of chaos sometimes.
What I'm Listening To, Volume 4
Summer is winding down which makes me feel a little low key #blessed. No more looking like a sweaty tomato all the time. No more feeling uncomfortable in my own skin because I can layer upon layer my clothes. But no one wants to hear about that so onto the music. I set out to make another blissful summer playlist, but just didn't have the heart to finish it. It just never felt right when I would listen back to it. So instead I went with a trusted go to: what I'm listening to right now.
In the Kitchen: The Vanilla Bean Baking Book Chocolate Chip Cookies (Kind Of..)
One of my favorite deserts is a classic chocolate chip cookie. If it's warm even better. I think I've made every recipe for chocolate chip cookies. I have the Toll House recipe memorized. I've tried what the New York Times claims is the best recipe of all time. I've learned nearly every tip and trick to making the best cookies ever. I've even made up my own recipes. I guess I'm a little...obsessed; so naturally when the cookies from the Vanilla Bean Baking Book kept popping up on my Instagram feed I knew I had to give them a try.
(Some Of) My Favorite Design Books
Design is completely and utterly fascinating to me for so many reasons. So many reasons I think no one wants to hear on this blog (it would be the longest, most boring blog post ever). Mainly that I admire anyone who can look at an object and see something that can be made different about it. My favorite design books encompass quite a few subjects including industrial design and graphic design. There's something about the ideology of what makes certain products, designs, or brands stick and others fade away that I find very intriguing. I love that there are 6,000 unique ways to redesign objects but still make them functional. I mean how many designs for chairs have you seen in life?
So, I Tried Filmstruck...
Filmstruck is a streaming service that offers "contemporary and classic art house, indie, foreign, and cult films." It was created by the film lovers at Turner Classic Movies and the Criterion Collection. There's a pretty well stocked library of options across multiple genres, and even just scrolling genres seemed endless
WTF Wellness: Grounding
A few months ago it seemed like everyone was throwing around their most trendy wellness tips, and one of the most popular, especially according to Hollywood, was grounding. No, it's not the kind we used to get as disobedient kids, but rather, exactly as it sounds: creating balance via the ground. Grounding, or Earthing, is using the ground and it's natural electrical current to balance out your body. It made me super curious because we didn't really talk about that in Earth Science so I decided to do a little research on Grounding.
The List - Rose Gold
Rose Gold is one of my favorite things ever. I'm addicted to buying it especially when it comes to jewelry. I'm still really disappointed I lost my favorite rose gold ring at the movies a few months ago. But, because of rose gold's popularity, I constantly find new ones to "replace" it with. I just really love how rose gold looks with dainty, simple pieces. it's just incredibly simple and pretty.
