Links I Love 009
I can't believe tomorrow is May 1st. My birthday is just days away. I feel a little conflicted about it. Obviously getting older isn't fun for everyone, but my displeasure comes from another place entirely. I suppose I'm just don't feel like I am where I wanted to be in life when I reached this age. But hey life happens and you just gotta roll with it, right? Since it's the end of the month, here's a link roundup of everything I have been loving around the internet and in life over the past month.
Why I Love Grace Kelly's Iconic, Timeless Style
With the Royal Wedding happening in just weeks, everyone has been talking about America's Princess, Meghan Markle. But that got me thinking about the original American Princess, Grace Kelly. Grace Kelly has a timeless style that can still be embraced today without seeming like a costume. That's one of the main reasons I consider her one of my style icons. We have a very similar classic, simple, but chic and comfortable personal style. In 2018 it's pretty hard to pull off a full Grace Kelly look without looking and feeling like a time traveler, but there are many ways to channel the iconic starlet in everyday fashion.
Four Fun Things: 90s Nostalgia
It feels like the 90s just ended 5 minutes ago, but everywhere I look there's some trend or reference reappearing for better or worse. I've even seen articles about millennial's being affected by early on-set nostalgia because of this incredibly close wave of brands resurfacing or bringing back bygone products and mascots. Hamburgler Hipster Dad anyone? I know there are plenty of things from the 1990s I would love to forget about, but here I am reliving my youth whether I want to or not. So after a strange Double Dare-centric conversation with my sister, here are 4 fun things for optimal 90s nostalgia.
Stylish Ways to Spend Your Tax Refund
A simple Google search will yield thousands of results telling you how to spend your tax refund. There's plenty of realistic, responsible advice like investing the money for later on in life. There's also starting that fixer upper project you've been putting off. Then there are the fun ideas like taking a vacation to a place you've never been before. Of course, I have a different idea: update my closet. With wardrobe updating in mind, I made two categories: Investment Buys and Affordable Favorites.
Spring Dresses
Spring dresses aren't the most groundbreaking of trends. Ever since I was a kid I have looked forward to warmer weather so I could live in sundresses. I wear them far less often as an adult, but I still love them. Spring dresses are a wardrobe staple although the trendy colors, patterns, and styles may change year after year. They can be worn casually during the day and dressed up at night. It's easy to create the perfect collection of spring dresses that are on trend or last for years to come. Whether they are short, mid-length, or long there's a spring dress that is perfect for everyone.
Four Fun Things: Phoenix/Scottsdale Edition
I have good news and bad news. The good news is Phoenix and Scottsdale is a prime tourist destination due to its good weather. Okay, maybe that becomes an inconvenience to everyone trying to get around town in a timely fashion. But the bad news is, this weekend it's going to about 95 degrees. Hopefully, we can push the days of 100+ days off just a little longer so we can spend more time outdoors. With this in mind, I put together a little list of my four favorite places to hang out. Some of them will let you beat the heat and one will let you enjoy a little time outdoors.
A Big 'Ol Bunch of (Street) Style Inspiration
Runways tell us what to wear, but can mostly feel like incredibly artistic statements no could ever pull off in real life. Street Style on the other hand really shows us how to bring these trends into real life. Okay, maybe not entirely into real life. I'm almost positive it takes a lot of planning to make a good outfit that gets noticed for the right reasons. Both ways we look to style inspiration have their pros and cons. One thing is absolutely true: I love looking at street style. Maybe too much.
Tackle Spring Cleaning Like An Expert
Well, I'm not a cleaning professional. Just a girl raised in a family filled with clean freaks and who suffers from a moderate case of OCD. Spring Cleaning is always an event for me. I love it because I take control of my environment, organize everything, and feel accomplished. You just don't realize how dirty things can get or how many things you can accumulate in one year. So I'm sharing some of the insights I've learned throughout the years.
Spring Trends Worth Embracing
Obviously, the runaways during fashion month tell us what trends are going to be popular for the next season. Of course, runway looks aren't always the most practical for daily life. They are worth lusting over multiple times a year, but not necessarily adapting regularly. Another reason runaways are more interesting to look at then copy is because not every trend is for everyone.
