Yeehaw! The Wild Ride of the Western Trend.

Being from the American Southwest, there are two things you absolutely know are true: 1. Cowboy culture has been engrained in your psyche since birth and 2. Every single depiction (or bachelorette party) of Arizona is going to be about or reference cowboys. Growing up many portions of our education were centered on Arizona and learning about its origins from the Native American canals that have since been paved over to the now defunct (but iconic) Buffalo Museum where we learned all about these gigantic creatures that used to roam this part of the west. Scottsdale, in particular, is a wealth of cowboy culture and history where benches are engraved with significant events, the little red schoolhouse is now a museum, and there are plenty of stores with authentic Native American, Mexican, and western goods for tourists to snatch up. Who could forget the billion trips to Rawhide, a cowboy/old west themed attraction with duel reenactments and a stagecoach? You get the idea…

The Western trend isn’t necessarily even a trend in these parts. Sure, plenty of hat bars and such have popped up over the last year or so, but to many it’s just life. I, for one, have always rocked a chic pair of cowboy boots - even if it took me until my 30s to get another pair. This trend is one that I adore in a bittersweet way because it’s given me a newfound appreciation for where I come from while seamlessly allowing me to fully identify a bachelorette party from a mile away. Since the Western trend has galloped its way back into the spotlight, bringing a nostalgic yet fresh vibe to our wardrobes. But before we saddle up with the latest looks, let's take a quick ride through history.

A Dash of History: From Cowboy Roots to Catwalks

The Western trend, rooted deeply in American history, draws inspiration from the rugged attire of cowboys and cowgirls of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Think about the classic elements: sturdy denim jeans, leather boots, fringed jackets, and wide-brimmed hats. These pieces were more than just style statements—they were functional, designed to withstand the harsh conditions of the American frontier.

The romanticization of the Wild West in movies and TV shows in the mid-20th century brought cowboy fashion to mainstream culture. Icons like John Wayne and later Clint Eastwood became synonymous with the rugged, all-American style that captured the imagination of many.

The Modern Western Trend: A Fashion Frontier

Fast forward to today, and the Western trend has been revived with a modern twist, making waves in both high fashion and street style. Designers are reimagining classic Western wear, blending traditional elements with contemporary aesthetics.

Key Pieces to Wrangle:

1. Cowboy Boots: The quintessential Western staple. Whether you go for classic leather or opt for bold colors and embellishments, cowboy boots add an instant edge to any outfit.

2. Fringe: From jackets to handbags, fringe details are making a comeback. They bring movement and a touch of bohemian flair.

3. Denim: A Western wardrobe isn't complete without denim. High-waisted jeans, denim skirts, and jackets are versatile pieces that can be dressed up or down.

4. Western Shirts: Think pearl snap buttons, embroidery, and plaid patterns. These shirts are perfect for layering and adding a rustic touch.

5. Accessories: Wide-brimmed hats, bandanas, and bolo ties are the cherry on top of any Western-inspired look.

Pop Culture Influence: Western Hits the Big Time

The resurgence of the Western trend is no accident—pop culture has been instrumental in its revival. TV shows like "Yellowstone" have sparked a renewed interest in Western wear, showcasing characters in authentic, stylish outfits that make us all want to channel our inner cowboy or cowgirl. TikTok trends in recent years have given rise to the Coastal Cowgirl aesthetic.

Music festivals like Coachella have also embraced the trend, with celebrities and influencers donning Western-inspired outfits that blend vintage charm with modern chic. But when Beyoncé went country this year, the trend has been taken to new heights.

The Western trend is more than just a fashion statement—it's a nod to a bygone era, a celebration of individuality, and a versatile style that can be tailored to fit anyone's wardrobe. Whether you're going for a full cowboy-inspired look or just want to add a touch of the Wild West to your everyday style, there's something undeniably fun and freeing about embracing this trend.
