How to Master the Sunday Reset
Sundays can be tricky. On the one hand, they’re meant to be restful, the one day to reset before the busy day ahead. On the other hand, they often come with the looming sense of anxiety - the dreaded Sunday Scaries. If you’re anything like me, Sundays can feel like the worst day of the week. But with a little intention and the right mindset, they can be a game changer for your wellness and productivity. Enter the Sunday Reset - a trend that is all about prepping your life for the week ahead, while also nurturing your mind, body, and space.
What is the Sunday Reset?
The Sunday Reset is a trend that I’ve seen a lot lately and it seems to be taking over everyone’s weekend - and for good reason. It’s a dedicated time to evaluate, clean up, and refresh every aspect of your life before Monday arrives. It’s about letting go of chaos and bringing balance into your routine. The idea? A little self care and a little prep on Sunday that can make a huge difference throughout the week.
Why It’s Important
Starting the week feeling organized and refreshed is essential for maintain your mental and physical well-being. When your environment and mindset are in sync, everything else flows. Without this reset, Mondays can feel overwhelming, and the week might feel like it’s off to a bumpy start. Something I can’t stant. Ultimately it’s about spending the day with intention, peace, and getting the tools needed to reduce stress and feel more in control.
Sunday is going to roll around again and you deserve to start your week on a high note, so here are a few tips for getting the most from your Sunday Reset.
Get Introspective
There is a reason why Sundays don’t feel great so before you can begin to decide where to dive in, it’s important to step back and look at how you’re currently spending the day. Do you spend the entire day running errands? Are you feeling scattered? Do you binge-watch Netflix all day out of pure exhaustion? Are you cramming in last-minute work because you just couldn’t get it done on Friday? Understanding where your Sunday is going will help you identify what’s causing the Sunday night dread. Take stock of the habits or routines that aren’t serving you, and mentally highlight the areas that could use a little more structure, calm, or focus.
what does your ideal sunday look like?
Visualization is a powerful tool for creating the life you want, and, of course, it works here too. Ask yourself: If you could craft your dream Sunday, what would it look like? What would you be spending your time doing? Maybe it’s a peaceful morning sipping coffee with a good book, or maybe you’re more like me and enjoy a productive afternoon meal prepping or updating your blog (it is Sunday as I write this post after all). Take a few minutes to write down what the perfect Sunday would look like. By clearly defining the vision, you can start to incorporate pieces of it, making Sundays less chaotic and more aligned with your personal goals and values.
Pick Your Non-Negotiables
Obviously there are going to be a few must-do tasks or activities you have to do on Sundays that anchor your day. These are the things that, no matter what, make you feel like you have your shit together. For me, I always include cleaning up my space - because nothing feels better than starting Monday with a clutter-free home - meal prepping for the week, and setting my list of priorities. Your non-negotiables could look different - maybe it’s doing laundry, organizing your work bag, or mapping out your workouts for the week. These tasks create a structure that makes the rest of the week feel smoother and a bit more manageable. Once you identify what your non-negotiables are, prioritize them and commit to getting them done, no matter what else the day may throw at you.
Let Things Go
A Sunday Rest isn’t about just doing - it’s also about releasing. The weight of the past week can build up in unexpected ways, whether it’s lingering stress from work, guilt over unfinished tasks, or even emotional baggage. Use Sundays as a time to mentally and emotionally let things go. You don’t have to carry everything with you into the new week. Write down anything that has been weighing on you, and then consciously decide to release it. This could be anything from letting go of the need to be perfect, or realizing that some tasks just won’t get done - and that is okay. Light a candle, do some breathwork, or even take a long walk to physically and mentally clear your mind. Letting go of unnecessary baggage is one of the most freeing parts of a reset, giving you more space for what really matters.
Do Something for you
One of the most important parts of the Sunday Rest is leaning into self-care. It’s really easy to get caught up in the productive parts of resetting, but don’t forget to carve out time for something that is just for you. This could be as simple as doing a face mask or giving yourself a gua sha facial, or it could be reading a few chapters of a book you’ve been dying to read. Maybe it’s indulging in a favorite hobby or doing a bit of yoga or stretching to unwind. The point is to do something that fills your cup before you step into the demands of a new week. The only rule is the act should feel like a reward and serve as a reminder that balance is key. Sundays aren’t just about prepping for everyone else or the week ahead, but also about taking care of yourself.
